The State Cartographer’s Office is once again taking the lead on organizing the annual UW–Madison Geospatial Summit, to be held in the UW Gordon Commons and Events Center on April 26th from 10:00 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.
The Summit will feature presentations on current geospatial research, teaching, and service initiatives on campus, an educational roundtable, and a keynote address by Marcy Bidney, Curator of the American Geographical Society Library in Milwaukee. The event will also include a geospatial career and networking fair designed to connect students with area employers.
Howard Veregin, State Cartographer, describes the event as “a great opportunity for faculty, staff, students, local businesses, and community members to learn more about the rich and diverse geospatial activities happening on campus.” He also commented, “we are particularly excited about our morning ‘roundtable’ discussion where we will examine career opportunities, and challenges, for women in GIS.”
The 2016 Summit attracted almost 140 registrants from locations around the state. While primarily an academic conference, there is a strong interest on the part of government agencies, private companies, non-profits, and the general public.
