Madison Kipp Corp's effect on neighborhood residents

Capstone Statement: Determine whether proximity to Kipp Corp's smokestack effects the incidence of asthma in neighborhood residents.

Madison-Kipp, operates aluminum and zinc die-casting plants at 2824 Atwood Ave. and 166 S. Fair Oaks Ave. on Madison^Òs east side. They have applied for a number of modifications and revisions to existing permits. Over the last several years, persons living near Madison-Kipp^Òs plants have complained of health concerns and odors eminating from the firm^Òs die-casting operations. The DNR is currently researching whether alterations to the permit should be granted. There is a strong neighborhood contingent involved in addressing this issue as evidenced by the 60 neighborhood residents who attended a recent Kipp Corp meeting. Group organizers are interested in possible GIS contributions to their efforts.
