How Do I Sign Up for Courses?

If you are beginning Fall Semester, you will only be allowed to select and register for your courses following the July 4th holiday. This is university policy for all graduate programs.

If you are beginning during Spring Semester or Summer Term, you should be able to register for classes immediately upon being approved by the Graduate School.

You will first need to set up your NetID to register for courses.

Once you have done this, you can register for courses at my.wisc.edu.

PDF directions from the Registrar on selecting courses, creating a plan, and adding them to your schedule are here.

For a full list of tutorials, including video walkthroughs, please visit the Registrar’s How-To Site.

Before beginning, it is useful to think about the following:

  • How many courses should I take during the semester?
    Things to consider before deciding:

    • Each course will require 8-14 hours per week.
    • Slow-and-steady typically wins the race in graduate and capstone work. Don’t overcommit and burn yourself out.
  • ONLINE STUDENTS: the only sections you should sign up for begin with 07. Typically the sections are 070, but they may also be 071, 072, 073, etc.
