Our Application Process

Thank you for your interest in our programs! We know that many of our prospective students are working professionals, so we aim to be respectful of your time as you apply. Generally, the process is:

  1. Check the prerequisites.
  2. Gather the documents and info you’ll need.
  3. Fill out the application(s).

Find specific details and requirements for the program you’re interested in below. If you have any questions, please reach out to us at gispp@geography.wisc.edu. We’ll help get you on the right track as soon as possible.

We are currently working toward discontinuing our online certificates and degree programs. We anticipate that admissions will be suspended beginning with the Summer 2025 semester. If you have any questions, please contact us.

Application Deadlines

Our online programs admit students three times a year; our in-person master’s degree admits students twice a year. Please review the deadlines below and plan your application accordingly.

All of our programs require 2 letters of recommendation received by the final deadline. You don’t need to get those letters for us; you only need to provide us with contact information for your references. We’ll send those references an email when you submit your application. Therefore, we recommend you submit your application before the final deadline, and make sure your references know to expect an email from us.
