Spring into this semester’s Map Chat lineup with Yanbing Chen, a PhD student with a wealth of experience and a ton of cool designs to show off. On Wednesday, February 4 at 2 p.m. Central time, join us via Zoom or meet us in the Cartography Lab in Science Hall (room 250).
Yanbing’s chat will examine how cartographic design changes across media, from expressive, web-based maps to physical and tactile mapping artifacts. Drawing on lyrics maps and tangible navigation maps, the talk highlights how different media introduce distinct design constraints, opportunities, and responsibilities. It provides insight into the iterative design process and reflects on how maps function not only as representations, but as interactive experiences embedded in real-world contexts.
