Which program did you participate in and when?
Online Master's Program in GIS & Web Map Programming from September 2016 until August 2018
Could you tell us a little about your career and education path?
I received a B.S. in Human Geography from UW (#DoubleAlumnus), but because I began as a Math major I was able to talk my way into a Statistician position at the Census (after some time teaching English abroad to scratch my travel itch). From there, I was able to internally transfer to my current position.
Current job?
Geographer for U.S. Census Bureau in Suitland, MD
Favorite memory of GISPP?
Any time a script would run without errors!
In what ways did your experience with GISPP prepare you for and enhance your career?
It provided me with the confidence and experience to tackle new and complicated projects and analyses. These are traits my team has recognized over time and I now believe myself to be a GIS resource for all types of projects and questions.
What advice would you give current students?
A well-worded and concise Google search is the best way to debug an error - many others have probably run into the exact same issue.
What do you like to do for fun?
I play and collect board games and am using what I learned in my GISPP to create some hobby "sports analytics" projects.
