The department held a workshop on scientific writing on November 5 -16th as part of a growing partnership between the UW-Madison Geography Department and and the School of Geography at Beijing Normal University (BNU) in China. The workshop was developed specifically for our Chinese visitors (junior faculty members and senior Ph.D. students) from Beijing Normal University who are interested in learning how to publish research papers in science citation indexed (SCI) journals. The program consisted of four interconnected components: overview of scientificc writing, anatomy of faculty published papers, individual meeting with related faculty members on trainee’s papers. Six trainees and two supervising faculty members from BNU attended this workshop. In addition to the academic program, faculty and staff took time to show our guests the rich cultural heritage of Wisconsin. The program was extremely successful and plans for future workshops are underway.
