Cartography students from the UW-Madison geography department won high honors at the 2013 conference of the American Association of Geographers (AAG) in Los Angelas.
Katie Ginter (GIS Certificate Program) and Morgan Jarocki (BA Cart/GIS ’13) tied for 1st place in the prestigious AAG National Geographic Award in Mapping with their respective maps, Impacts and Near-Misses: Asteroids, Meteoroids and their Impact Craters on Planet Earth and Poetic Traditions of the Arabs. A map by masters student Becca Summer was one of three honorable mentions.
Carl Sack (MS ’13) won first place in the AAG Cartography Special Group Honors Student Paper Competition for his paper “Designing Map Democracy: The Creation of the Bad River Watershed Wikimap”. Carl successfully defended his MS thesis on the same topic in May.
