Cartography graduate student leaves her mark at Memorial Union

IMAG17971Cartography graduate student, Caroline Rose, is leaving her mark at the University in the form of a permanent map installation at the Memorial Union. On May 19, 2014, a dedication ceremony was held for her recently completed three-dimensional, magnetic bathymetric map of Lake Mendota in the newly renovated Wisconsin Hoofers space in the Union.

In addition to having a beautiful aesthetic, the map can function as a teaching tool—with its magnetic labels, Hoofer Outing, Sailing, and Scuba instructors can show important lake features and report events happening on and around the lake. As a student volunteer herself, Caroline dedicated the project to the university students and community members who volunteer their time at Hoofers.
