Yi-Fi Tuan Lectures
The Yi-Fu Lecture Series features a wide variety of U.S. and international guest lecturers from all geographic disciplines. Lecturers also often speak at brown-bag lunches, one-on-one student sessions, and breakfast meetings with student interest groups as part of their visit. Doctoral students are invited to present their final research. The lecture series was initiated by Dr. Tuan (pictured) and receives enthusiastic support as a department and campus tradition.
Lectures are typically held in room 180 of Science Hall every Friday at 3:30 p.m. For those unable to attend in person, the meeting can be joined via livestream (go.wisc.edu/yifu) except when otherwise indicated.
Alumni, friends and the public are always invited to attend.

Map Chat
This speaker series, run by GIS Professional Programs, happens 2–3 times per semester. Designed as a more informal, networking-friendly opportunity, Map Chat pulls in experts from all corners of the geospatial and cartography world.
Map Chats are virtual via Zoom or hybrid. They are free and open to all.
Career Conversations with Geographers
CCG was created as a way for current students to learn about Geography-related careers through discussion with UW-Madison Geography alumni. In other words, CCG seeks to shed light on how the geographer’s unique skillset can translate to interesting and fulfilling careers. It’s also an easy way to develop professional connections with alumni. All students are invited and encouraged to attend.
Geospatial Data Science Speaker Series
Hosted by the GeoDS lab and co-sponsored by the Data Science Institute @ UW-Madison, this series brings in researchers and lecturers who specialize in topics on the cutting edge of geodata, such as geospatial AI, geoanalytics, and much more.
Wisconsin Geospatial Events Calendar
The State Cartographer’s Office compiles this calendar from a wide variety of sources. It’s a great spot to check for local, statewide, and regional geospatial events happening in Wisconsin and the Midwest.
