This spring was a season of honors for cartography students in the department.
Katie Ginter (GIS Certificate) and Morgan Jarocki (BA Cart/GIS ’13) tied for 1st place in the prestigious National Geographic Award in Mapping with their respective maps, Impacts and Near-Misses: Asteroids, Meteoroids and their Impact Craters on Planet Earth and Poetic Traditions of the Arabs. A map by masters student Becca Summer was one of three honorable mentions.
Carl Sack (MS ’13) won first place in the AAG Cartography Special Group Honors Student Paper Competition for his paper “Designing Map Democracy: The Creation of the Bad River Watershed Wikimap”. Carl successfully defended his MS thesis on the same topic in May.
