Finding the Geography Department

In summer 2026, the Geography Department is moving out of Science Hall in preparation for the building’s upcoming renovations.

Geography faculty, staff, and graduate student offices, including the Robinson Map Library, Cartography Lab, and State Cartographer’s Office, will be located in the Computer Sciences building at 1210 W. Dayton St on the UW–Madison Campus.

Labs will be located in the Medical Sciences Center at 1300 University Avenue.

When will the move happen?

The majority of the move will happen in early June 2026. Please contact staff via email or phone in June.

Can I visit Science Hall?

Science Hall will be empty and closed to the public until renovations are complete.

Where can I find visitor parking near Computer Sciences?

The UW Transportation Services website provides extensive information about visitor parking, including current availability.

The closest visitor parking lots include 080 Union South Garage and 017 Engineering Drive Ramp. Some street parking is available on Monroe Street outside of Camp Randall Stadium (metered), as well as on the streets south of Computer Sciences (unmetered with a 2 hour limit).

Buses operate regularly on University Avenue, W. Johnson Street, and Park Street, all of which are within walking distance; see the Madison Metro Transit web site for route and schedule information.

I need to access aerial photos or a map from the Robinson Map Library. What do I do?

Print map collections, books, and atlases will be inaccessible for the duration of the construction project, but the historic aerial photograph collection will be accessible in Computer Sciences by appointment only beginning in mid-summer 2026. Email Map and GIS Librarian Jaime Martindale (jmartindale@wisc.edu) to schedule.

See more detailed info on the Map Library website.

Where can I find my professor's office number?

The directory on this site (under the People tab in the main menu) will be updated after the move is complete.

If you have any additional questions, please reach out to Mariah Gorman (mtgorman@wisc.edu).
