Accessing the Library
Building Map
- There are floor plan maps visible on each floor of Science Hall near the main elevator.
Entrances
- The Robinson Map Library is located in Room 310 of Science Hall, (3rd Floor, North Wing.
- There is an entrance / exit via the double doors in the front of the building with access from Park Street, though this entrance includes several flights of stairs.
- There is no ramp or automatic door at the front entrance
- There is an entrance / exit via the rear of the building, accessible via the parking lot. Access to the parking lot is via Observatory Drive to the north.
- The rear entrance has a ramp and is equipped with an automatic door.

Elevators
- There is one main elevator that goes to all floors in Science Hall, except the mezzanine.
- The main elevator is accessible from the 1st floor when using the front entrance (from Park Street) and from the “1R” floor when using the rear entrance (from the parking lot.
- The main elevator does not require the use of a key, and can travel from the basement to the 5th floor.
- The main elevator does not provide access to the mezzanine which exists between floors 3 and 4. To access the mezzanine, take the elevator to the 3rd floor and use the mechanical lift elevator adjacent to Room 380. This lift does require a key that can be obtained from the main office in the Geography Department.
Parking & Transportation
- The parking lot immediately behind Science Hall (Lot 9) is accessible from Observatory Drive. It has two accessible parking stalls which require UW Disabled Permits Monday-Friday from 7:00am – 4:30pm. Both accessible parking stalls are available to park after 4:30 p.m., and all day Saturday and Sunday with a WI DOT disabled parking permit.
- There is one Visitor parking stall which requires a UW Visitor pass, all other parking spaces are by permit only for Lot 9 Monday – Friday from 7:00am – 4:30pm.
- The closest public parking space option is the Helen C. White parking garage to the north of Science Hall on Park Street.

Emergency / Evacuation Procedures
- There are evacuation procedure maps on each floor and inside all main offices/spaces in Science Hall, including the Map Library.

Accessible Furniture
- All 18 chairs in the Map Library public access and computing areas are arm-less.
Quiet Spaces
- The Map Library is one large open room and (in general) not a quiet space.
Restrooms
- Restrooms are located in the basement, and on the 1st, 2nd, and 4th floors in Science Hall.
Lactation and Baby Changing Space
- There is a baby changing station inside the 1st floor women’s bathroom in Science Hall.
Lighting
- The main map room in the library has motion sensor lighting.
